The Clemson Tigers snagged their seventh ACC series after defeating the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 2-1 in their weekend series. With the win, the Tigers improve to 36-10 overall and 17-7 in ACC play, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 28-17 and 12-12 in ACC play.
After each team earned a win in the Friday doubleheader, the Tigers got a massive win against the Yellow Jackets two days later. In Clemson’s 9-3 victory to seal the series, pitcher Aidan Knaak earned seven strikeouts in four innings, allowing only one run and two hits and earning the win on the day.
Despite the ninth-inning two-run homer from Georgia Tech’s Parker Brosius, the Yellow Jackets couldn’t make up for the massive pit the Tigers had dug. Run-scoring doubles from Jimmy Obertop and Tristan Bissetta in the second inning, a run-scoring triple from Cam Cannarella in the third inning, and a three-run homer from Jacob Hinderleider in the fourth inning all helped boost Clemson far ahead. With his massive performance on Sunday, Hinderleider now has 10 homers on the season and a 12-game hitting streak.
The Tigers started off the series by scoring 10 runs in the first three innings of game one. With 16 hits and 11 runs in total, headed by a three-run homer from Blake Wright in the third inning, the Tigers took a dominant win to start the series.
Georgia Tech refused to give up the series too quickly and took a huge 14-12 win after a late comeback. After a back-and-forth contest, the Yellow Jackets earned seven runs in the final two innings, with a two-run home from Mike Becchetti earning the win in the bottom of the ninth. Despite a record performance from Blake Wright, who went 4 for 5 with seven RBIs, the Tigers couldn’t hold onto their multiple game leads.
With their third consecutive series win, the Tigers look toward their second to last series against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in Winston-Salem, NC.
