On Thursday, December 5th, The ROAR is partnering with Sunday Dinner with a Twist and four Upstate families to meet their physical needs as well as supply them with cash to provide Christmas gifts to their children as they cannot otherwise afford to.
Three of our four families were heavily impacted by Hurricane Helene. Donations should be made at this link and if you want to specify who the donation is for, you can include that in the comments section. All online donations are tax deductible! Learn more about the families below.
FAMILY 1
-
A mother, father, and four children lived in Black Mountain. Tragically, the father lost his life during the hurricane. The mother and kids came to stay with her uncle for support. However, not long after arriving, the mother attempted suicide and is now in a mental health facility receiving care. The four children are staying with the uncle who is 65 years old.
FAMILY 2
- This family with four children lost everything in Hurricane Helene—their home and all their belongings were completely destroyed.
FAMILY 3
- The morning of Hurricane Helene, Tammy was about to take her sister to her chemotherapy appointment when her son noticed water seeping in through the front door. Thinking it was just rain blowing under the seal, she opened the door and was stunned to see about 16 inches of water—and no land in sight, just endless water. With no working phone lines, the son waded through the flood to a neighbor’s house to get help. He then guided the rescuers back to assist her sister, who uses a wheelchair, to safety. He carried their dogs to dry land and returned to help her navigate through the rushing water.
FAMILY 4
- The mother and her three children have moved into a domestic violence shelter. With the father having been the family's sole provider, they are now facing significant financial struggles.
